How to update Sony Xperia ZL C6503 to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean official firmware 10.3.1.A.0.244

You can update Sony Xperia ZL C6503 to Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 manually with Sony Flash Tool (different for a rooted and an unrooted phone).

We will detail each of these methods in today's guide.

Requirements

But before we can do any of that, you should see what requirements your phone must comply with:

  • turn on USB Debugging as soon as you can;
  • download, on your laptop, USB drivers that only work with the Xperia ZL C6503;
  • charge the smartphone's battery unit;
  • use a comp or notebook that displays Windows as the operating system;
  • create backups;
  • use the Sony Xperia ZL C6503 for this tutorial.

Important instructions

Here are the steps that shall update your device via the Sony Flash Tool (for a non-rooted Xperia ZL C6503).

First one

- download Sony Flashtool (flashtool-0.9.11.0-windows.exe | 112.77MB)

- download Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware (Xperia ZL (C6503)_10.3.1.A.0.244_Generic DE.ftf | 755MB)

on the PC or notebook.

Then, after the first file is on the device, you can open it and then go here:

C:\Flashtool\drivers folder

so that you can flash Flashtool-drivers. Now opt for the box which shows the phone's model. Then also check the box with Flashmode Drivers on it and plug the smartphone to the laptop. Download, next, *.ftf. A

Afterwards copy this to C:\flashtool\firmwares folder and click on a lightning icon that is displayed on that flashtool; next up: tap flashmode and after that tap OK to confirm all of this.

After a new window pops on the display, check these boxes:

- Data

- Cache

- Appslog

that are on the right side.This action aims at wiping the phone; in case you don't want this to happen: don't select any of those options and instead go to source folder; there, look for, in the flashtool/firmwares:

*.ftf

Opt for the latter, then begin the installation by tapping Flash. When guidelines pop on the screen, you have to follow them. This means you need to disconnect the phone from the laptop, turn it off and afterwards boots it into Flash Mode like this:

- press + hold Volume Down.

The Flash tool shall continue its activity. So install the *.ftf and then have patience for it to end; when that happens, you will spot this message:

Flashing finished

Switch the phone on. The 10.3.1.A.0.244 is now on your phone.

Update your device with the same Sony Flash Tool (for a rooted Xperia ZL C6503) with the steps shown in the next paragraph.

Download the same two files as above on your personal comp, then download OTA Root Keeper on your smartphone. Launch the latter and then tap

Protect root

Now click on

Temp. un-root

and then download the Sony flashtool on the notebook. Now double-click on flashtool.exe file; the latter will begin its flashing phase soon. The C Drive will then show you a flashtool folder and you will need to double-click on flashtool icon. This will open the flashtool and you will be able to go to

C:\Flashtool\drivers

folder. Flash

Flashtool-drivers

then look for the box which has the name of your phone on it; check that box and then opt for Flashmode Drivers.

Plug your handset to the notebook. Download *.ftf; copy it after that to this place:

C:\flashtool\firmwares

You should see a lightning icon, so click on it; then click on Flashmode and confirm it with "OK" and a fresh window is going to come on the display. That means you should check a couple of boxes whose names are Data, Cache and Appslog. When done, select *.ftf in the flashtool/firmware and then tap Flash. As soon as the process is at its end, you will need to:

- disconnect the devices from each other

- switch the smartphone off

- boot it into Flash Mode by pressing and holding Volume Down.

As the Flashtool does its thing, you have to wait for the installation to finish; that will come to be when "Flashing finished" is on the screen. Switch the phone on, then start the OTA Root Checker and tap Restore Root.
