How to install Galaxy S4 I9500 XXUBMG9 Android 4.2.2 Official Firmware

Galaxy S4 I9500 is not that far away from experiencing a well-deserved update to a newer OS. In this case: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The kind of firmware whose job is to make the update easy to obtain is the following: XXUBMG9.

Requirements

The purpose of this guide having been made clear, let's venture into the world of pre-requisites:

  • turn on USB Debugging on your smartphone;
  • use the model which comes in an unlocked form;
  • make backups;
  • flash USB Drivers for the handset on your PC;
  • charge the handset's battery.
As soon as the phone has entered the updated phase, its previously rooted nature will go away. So, to get root access back, it's best to find a guide on how to root the phone (or use the same one you followed when your device was still unrooted).

Important instructions

The second journey is about to begin. In it you shall be told what exactly to do to get the update on this phone. So begin it by downloading a couple of files on your laptop as show below:

- Odin v3.07

- the Android 4.2.2 I9500XXUBMG9.

Unzip only the second file instead of both and then power the handset off so that Download Mode can be reached. The latter is something which will happen if you:

- press and hold, together, Volume Down and Home

- press Power

- as a result of those actions, Android will show itself in the form of its logo

- you will also see a triangle

- now press only Power.

The Odin is on your laptop so that you can launch it after the phone is in the Download Mode. Then plug the Galaxy S4 I9500 to the notebook. The success of this connection relies on the presence of two particular elements. So be on the lookout for the following:

- a yellow ID:COM box with its joining COM port

- a message which sounds like this: "Added!".

Should the two never pop on the screen, something went wrong and you need to try another method. We recommend you to either look for a different USB port to employ or install the USB Drivers again. But if things went smoothly, you should continue the tutorial by performing the following tasks:

- click on PDA

- search for a file sporting CODE and choose it

- tap Phone

- locate a file with MODEM and then opt for it

- click on CSC

- find a file which has CSC in the name and select it

- tap PIT

- you will spot a file whose extension needs to be .pit

- opt for that file.

In case your eyes rest on neither of the files we mentioned, do this instead:

- select Auto Reboot

- select Re-partition

- choose F. Reset Time.

The box with Re-partition must be chosen only if the file with the aforementioned .pit extension was spotted earlier and then selected. Tap "START"; this is going to make the flashing of the update tool commence. Then, when the flashing has concluded, you need to wait for the Galaxy S4 I9500 to restart and then for the same device to do this: display a home screen. The meaning behind these two actions is this: the smartphone needs to be separated from your laptop. Also, be sure to go to your handset and tap "About Phone" after you've launched "Settings". Once you are done with those, look for the Android 4.2.2 XXUBMG9 where we indicated. Then use the firmware to its full potential!
